Housing Education and Counseling

BALANCE is a HUD-certified housing counseling organization. We work in partnership with – and receive funding from – local, statewide, and national government organizations and non-governmental organizations to help families buy first homes, or to protect the home they have in case of financial struggles. We’re recognized nationally for our education and counseling services and have helped thousands of families successfully secure safe housing appropriate to their financial situation.

Whether our clients turn to us for guidance for buying their first home, learning their rights as a renter, or finding rental assistance programs, protecting their home from foreclosure in times of financial turmoil, or accessing their equity to supplement their retirement, our counselors meet them with compassion, understanding and support to ensure they take their next steps in these sometimes-complicated life changes with confidence.

Our counseling programs include money management and savings guidance, credit report review and education about mortgages and options. Each session results in a written action plan with clear steps outlined to move forward in the process. Additionally, we use SpringFour to ensure we provide the most effective referrals to any necessary assistance programs in our clients’ communities.

Education and counseling requirements for certain down payment assistance programs or other first-time home buying programs may be met through our service.
